Dave King: port-of-entry mentor

port-of-entry are bringing influential industry members into the studio to work with and support creatives. We are honoured to announce Dave King has joined the mentor initiative:

Dave is an architect/teacher & local resident. His career spans right back to involvement with the design of the national theatre and other high profile projects in the ’60’s & ’70’s moving on to teach design at the liverpool school of architecture. Joint founder of King Mcallister (KM) followed by ShedKM in ’97, he now stands in as a design ‘guru’ at Ravensbourne College whilst continuing to represent ShedKM in the capital. Dave’s views on design tend to follow the dictums of minimalist art – he’s an admirer of the works of Donald Judd, Piet Mondrian, Yves Klein et al, and seeks to promote the idea that consistency of brand imagery backed by historical context can provide a philosophical backdrop to an architect’s oeuvre and status. In pursuit of this a current study tackles how a successful ‘out of town’ studio like ShedKM can impact on a diverse and eclectic design scene by using a deliberately limited colour and geometry pallette. Dave has written and published in the UK and european architectural press and has been a competition organiser and judge for the RIBA.
